New probable narrative on the horizon, “Israel false-flagging terrorist attacks in the West”:

Well in the case of the Dublin riot, it seems pretty clear that “social media” - AS A MEDIUM - is fundamentally to blame for kicking off extremist demonstrations: while I notice that Irish authorities have been careful not to promulgate any of the online provocations attendant on the school stabbings (at least I haven’t seen much: I gather it was the usual RW bullshit: immediately blaming a Muslim immigrant for the assault, and demanding the boyos turn out to protest) - there’s still the issue that online “calls to action” often don’t really have a traceable source. I’m thinking it’s not a factor in the Dublin violence (I’m sure RW assholes in Ireland are quite capable of ginning up violent fuckery on their own), but that might not always be the case.

Nice follow-up to the Dublin stabbings: one of the passers-by who helped subdue and hold the knife-wielder was a Brazilian immigrant working as a delivery driver. When his name was published, someone started a GoFundMe for him as a “thank-you”. So far, he’s collected €330,000.

From the last thread:

re: #213 Nerdy Fish

Regulating behavior, by its very nature, is post facto enforcement. It’s already illegal to shoot people, but we can’t do anything about it until people get shot. By regulating the tools, and the ability to access those tools, we move towards being able to prevent people getting shot, rather than punishing after the fact.

And this discussion is why I saw a guy in Home Depot with a shirt that said “This [AR-15] is a tool not a weapon.”

Any tool, or anything else, can become a weapon. When My mom was in law school, we all learned that someone was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon for a pumpkin.

And a weapon is a tool. It’s used for either defending or attacking, and its purpose is to injure or kill.

the new issue of the Atlantic (December) is a Reconstruction special issue.

Including, an 1866 article by Frederick Douglas, with new annotation by David W Blight.

Other selections from the table of contents:

The Black Roots of American Education, how freedpeople and their advocates persuaded the nation to embrace public schooling for all by Adam Harris

A Traitor to the Traitors, the confederate general James Longstreet became a champion of reconstruction, why? by Eric Foner

The Men Who Started the War John Brown and the secret six — the abolitionists who funded the raid on Harpers Ferry — confronted a question as old as America: when is violence justified? by Drew Gilpin Faust

The Atlantic is always one of my favorite magazines, but this issue is really special. If you’re not a subscriber, pick it up at a newsstand.

“…Per exit polls by the Associated Press, Trump’s strength in the Palmetto State came from White, born-again [fraud and rape-supporting] Evangelical Christians, who supported Trump by 87%-9%. South Carolina is entirely in the Bible Belt. As is the case in many Southern states, there was a stark racial divide in voting for this election: White South Carolinians supported Trump by 69%-29%, while Black South Carolinians supported Biden by 92%-7%. en.wikipedia.org

Although technically true the AR-15 was designed as a tool of violence. Its purpose is to quickly and efficiently throw lead downrange to destroy its target, which is supposed to be living creatures.

Amazing the ammosexuals never say that.
